about the Beverley Chamber Music Festival

The Festival was started in 1993 by Hazard Chase the artist’s agency and was run by them for eight years. Martin Roscoe has been the Artistic Director of the Festival since its inception. In 2001 a local committee was created to maintain the artistic integrity of the event and to guarantee its future.

The Festival has been funded by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Arts Council of Great Britain and local sponsors and patrons. It was granted charitable status in 2005. The Arts Council withdrew its funding in 2007. We are therefore particularly grateful for the ongoing support of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Festival’s Friends, Patrons and loyal supporters.

The Beverley Chamber Music Festival is a jewel in the local concert calendar and has attracted attention nationally and internationally with musicians appearing and returning to experience its  special atmosphere.

Previous solo artists include Tasmin Little, Peter Donohoe, Emma Johnson, John Lill and Matthew Trussler, Chamber ensembles have included London Winds, the Opera North Brass Ensemble, the Trio Wanderer and the Cropper Welsh Roscoe Piano Trio, the Sorrel, the Maggini, the Lindsay, and Ŝkampa  quartets.

A broad and thriving educational programme is very important to the Festival. Our Chamber Music Challenge, in association with the East Riding Schools’ Music Service, encompasses master classes and workshops for a wide range of instruments and chamber ensembles. This affords our young musicians the opportunity to work with the high calibre of artists that we attract to the Festival.
